The film adaptation of “Elden Ring” is moving forward with a scale rarely associated with A24’s slate.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the company has assembled a large ensemble cast and begun production in the United Kingdom, positioning the project as its most expansive undertaking to date, with a theatrical release set for March 3, 2028.

Alex Garland, coming off “Civil War,” is both writing and directing the picture, placing him at the center of what has become the company’s most demanding production.

Filming has started in the U.K., with additional location work expected as the shoot unfolds across roughly 100 days. The budget, reported to exceed $100 million, marks a significant jump from the studio’s usual range.

The cast reflects that ambition. Newly confirmed additions include Emma Laird, Jefferson Hall, Tom Burke, Nick Offerman, Ruby Cruz, Peter Serafinowicz, Havana Rose Liu, John Hodgkinson, Sonoya Mizuno and Jonathan Pryce. They join an existing lineup led by Cailee Spaeny, Kit Connor and Ben Whishaw. Character details remain under wraps.

The project draws from one of the most influential titles in modern gaming, a 2022 release from FromSoftware that blends open-world exploration with a deliberately opaque narrative. Set in a fractured realm known as the Lands Between, the story unfolds in the aftermath of a cataclysm that splintered a powerful force once tied to order itself.

Players step into the role of an outcast summoned back to this broken world, navigating hostile territories, clashing with corrupted rulers, and piecing together a mythos shaped in part by fantasy author George R. R. Martin. The game’s scale, emphasis on player choice, and environmental storytelling helped drive both its critical acclaim and its commercial reach, with more than 30 million copies sold worldwide.
