A Sequel Script Exists but Production Remains Uncertain
Fans hoping “Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves 2” was quietly moving toward production received both encouraging and disappointing news this week. Jonathan Goldstein confirmed that he and his collaborators have already completed a screenplay for another installment, but whether audiences ever see it is far from certain.

“We actually wrote a sequel to Dungeons and Dragons. We were hired to write it,” Goldstein said during an interview with ScreenRant at San Diego Comic-Con. He quickly tempered expectations, adding, “I don’t know that it will see the light of day for a number of financial reasons.”
The filmmaker pointed to the practical challenge facing large-scale fantasy productions, acknowledging that “They’re expensive movies to make,” while also making it clear he would welcome the opportunity to return. Goldstein also spoke warmly about reuniting with the original ensemble, saying, “We love that cast, and we think we wrote something that fans would like.”
Released in 2023, “Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves” earned strong reviews for its mix of fantasy adventure, comedy, and ensemble performances, but its worldwide box office of about $208 million fell short of expectations against a reported $150 million production budget.
For now, the sequel remains in limbo despite having a finished script. Paramount has not announced a green light for production, leaving the future of Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez, Justice Smith, Sophia Lillis, and the rest of the adventuring party uncertain. Unless the studio finds a way to make another installment financially viable, the next quest may stay confined to the page rather than the big screen.
