George A. Romero redefined the horror genre forever, and his legacy remains unmatched. His contributions to zombie cinema have been the most important, shaping the way we perceive these creatures in modern culture. So far, no director has been able to move beyond the norms he set, which is ample proof of his significance in the seventh art.
Nicknamed “King of the Zombies,” he and his friends barely gathered just over $100,000 to create “Night of the Living Dead” in the 1960s, which not only earned his team an astonishing box office total but also became a cult classic and was added to the National Film Registry. Since then, he continued to grow as a gore artist, producing both better and worse films but maintaining a solid style that has remained intact through the years.
Now, it seems the legacy goes on, as one of his three children, Tina Romero, has been working on a zombie flick, the first image of which has just been released and promises to be an entertaining title! Here, learn all about “Queens of the Dead”
Queens of the Dead: Preview of the glam-core zombie movie directed by Tina Romero
Tina Romero is no stranger to filmmaking, not only due to her iconic father but also because she has already directed three projects: two fantasy shorts titled “Rainbowarrior” and “Little Girl Blue” in 2008 and 2012, respectively, and an episode of the web series “Flicker,” which was a product of the 2018 edition of George A. Romero’s Filmmaking Program.
“Queens of the Dead” is poised to be Tina’s first feature movie and revolves around drag queens and club kids who must put their differences and judgments aside to battle the undead searching for flesh when a zombie apocalypse crashes into a drag show in Brooklyn.

The cast of the glam-core picture is filled with queer icons, such as Nina West, Jaquel Spivey, Tomas Matos, Becca Blackwell, Dominique Jackson, and more. The director told Bloody Disgusting, “This is the cast of my wildest dreams. In a movie about survival, you gotta love and root for the survival crew. Every single person in this ensemble brings such a special and specific flavor -both on and off screen. The result is truly a magic sauce.”
While it was revealed that Charades has acquired international sales rights, it is not known where the production will be released or when it will hit theaters.
