The woman who supplied the ketamine that led to the death of Matthew Perry has been sentenced to 15 years in prison. According to AP News, a federal judge in Los Angeles delivered the punishment after the defendant admitted her role in distributing the drug that caused the actor’s death in 2023, closing a major chapter in a case that has exposed a broader network of illegal supply surrounding a high-profile figure.
A Sentence That Anchors a Wider Case
U.S. District Judge Sherilyn Peace Garnett imposed the 15-year sentence on Jasveen Sangha, marking the third conviction among five individuals who pleaded guilty in connection with the circumstances surrounding Perry’s death.
Prosecutors had pushed for the same sentence, portraying Sangha as a central operator in a high-end drug distribution network. Court filings described a business that catered to wealthy clients and sustained an expensive lifestyle. Her legal team argued for leniency, citing her lack of prior convictions and her conduct while in custody, but the court ultimately aligned with the prosecution’s recommendation.
Perry, best known for his role as Chandler Bing on “Friends,” was found unresponsive in a hot tub at his Los Angeles home on October 28, 2023. The medical examiner later determined that ketamine was the primary cause of death, with additional contributing factors including drowning and underlying heart disease.
The investigation revealed that while Perry had been receiving ketamine legally as part of supervised treatment for depression, he sought additional quantities beyond what was prescribed. That pursuit led him through a chain of suppliers, including physician Salvador Plasencia, who admitted to illegally providing the drug, and ultimately to Sangha, who sold him dozens of vials in the days leading up to his death.
Authorities have framed the case as a coordinated effort to assign responsibility across all involved parties. Other defendants, including intermediaries who helped obtain the drug, are still awaiting sentencing, as the court works to ensure that each punishment reflects its role within the broader sequence of events that ended in Perry’s death.
