Speakin with Variety, Waterhouse opened up about the challenges of raising a child while living under constant public scrutiny, explaining why she and fiancé Robert Pattinson have made a deliberate decision to keep their daughter out of the spotlight.

Suki Waterhouse Says Privacy Is About Protection, Not Mystery

For Waterhouse, the issue goes beyond celebrity culture and into basic safety. While she and Pattinson remain among the most photographed couples in entertainment, they have avoided revealing their daughter’s name or showing her face publicly, even as paparazzi continue trying to capture images of the family.

“I think it really is possible to keep as much of your life private as possible. You can have both,” Waterhouse said, before explaining the boundary becomes more serious when a child is involved. “But you don’t want someone to recognize your kid in the street; it’s a safety thing.”

The comments arrive during an unusually packed moment for both stars. Waterhouse is launching Loveland, her third studio album, while Pattinson is in the middle of one of the busiest stretches of his career, balancing projects that range from Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey” to “Dune: Part Three” and preparation for “The Batman: Part II.”

Even with both parents deeply embedded in Hollywood, Waterhouse made clear she does not want her daughter growing up with the expectation of becoming a public figure herself. Speaking about the kind of future she hopes her child can choose freely, she said, “What if she wants to be a really cool scientist?”

Waterhouse added that she has no intention of deciding that future in advance. “Twenty years from now we’ll see if she wants to do anything in the public eye,” she said, before ending the thought with a more playful admission about her kid already showing signs of a dramatic streak. “[My daughter] is, unfortunately, quite theatrical.”

Waterhouse and Pattinson have been together since 2018, became engaged in 2023, and welcomed their daughter in March 2024. Over the years, the pair have maintained one of the entertainment industry’s more guarded relationships, rarely discussing their private lives in detail despite the constant attention surrounding them.
