The Oscar winner revealed that production on the long-awaited reboot has now been completed, and his comments are likely to reassure fans who have spent years waiting for the franchise’s return.

Russell Crowe Says Highlander Is “Going to Be Fantastic”

After years of development, “Highlander” has finally crossed a major milestone. Crowe confirmed that filming has wrapped on the fantasy action epic, which casts Henry Cavill as immortal warrior Connor MacLeod.

“I just finished the shoot of ‘Highlander,’” Crowe said. The actor takes on the role of Juan Sánchez-Villalobos Ramírez, the seasoned immortal who becomes Connor’s mentor and introduces him to the centuries-spanning conflict at the heart of the story.

Crowe did not hold back his excitement about the project’s prospects. Referring to the Amazon MGM Studios production, he declared that “it’s going to be fantastic,” offering one of the strongest endorsements yet from someone directly involved in the film.

Part of that confidence appears to stem from director Chad Stahelski, the filmmaker behind the “John Wick” franchise. Crowe praised Stahelski’s track record, saying audiences already know he is “incapable of directing a film that is not exciting.”

The new “Highlander” features an extensive ensemble that includes Dave Bautista as the fearsome Kurgan, alongside Marisa Abela, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, Jeremy Irons, Drew McIntyre, Jeon Jong-seo, Kevin McKidd and others. The story follows Connor MacLeod, a Scottish warrior who discovers he is one of a race of immortals locked in a centuries-long battle for a mysterious prize.

For fans eager to see Cavill wield a sword once again, Crowe’s early verdict suggests the reboot may be living up to the high expectations surrounding it.
