The meeting comes at a pivotal moment for Navarrette, whose performance in “Obsession” transformed her into one of the industry’s fastest-rising stars. The supernatural horror film, directed by Curry Barker, became an unlikely box office phenomenon after earning more than $460 million worldwide from a reported budget of under $1 million.

Speaking about life after the picture’s success, Navarrette said her schedule has been filled with opportunities to connect with filmmakers. “I’ve been taking a lot of meetings since ‘Obsession’ came out. That’s been really nice because you get to meet people and ask questions.”

One of those conversations was with Schreier, whose next project is expected to introduce Marvel Studios’ long-awaited version of the X-Men. Navarrette recalled growing up with Fox’s original mutant movies and said she admired the approach Schreier took on “Thunderbolts.” “I thought what Jake brought to ‘Thunderbolts’ was what I used to love about Marvel. It was character-driven, and the whole time I just couldn’t stop yapping about how much I appreciated what he did with Marvel.”

While her comments quickly sparked casting speculation, Navarrette also made it clear that not every meeting leads directly to a role. She described this stage of her career as a chance to meet filmmakers she respects and build relationships, explaining that some conversations are simply about expressing mutual admiration for each other’s work rather than signing onto a project.

Even so, she ended the discussion with a hint that Marvel fans were bound to notice. Asked which mutant she would most like to portray, Navarrette smiled and replied, “I mean, Mystique has always been super cool.”
