It looks like the world can’t get enough of Carrie White. The beloved Stephen King character proved her lasting appeal in 2013 with the remake led by Chloë Grace Moretz, and now she’s back to terrify a new generation, this time on the small screen.
A TV series based on “Carrie” was first reported to be in development at Amazon in October 2024, with the official greenlight arriving in April 2025. The streamer has ordered eight episodes, but what truly set the horror community buzzing was the announcement that Mike Flanagan would be at the helm. Known for genre-defining hits like “The Haunting of Hill House,” “Doctor Sleep,” “Hush,” and “Midnight Mass,” Flanagan’s signature style promises a darker an interesting take on the iconic tale.
Of course, the biggest question was who would take on the role of the telekinetic teen, and now we have the answer. Rising star Summer H. Howell has been cast as Carrie White, and all eyes are on her as she prepares to bring one of horror’s most tragic and powerful characters back to life.
Who is Summer H. Howell
Summer H. Howell has barely entered her twenties, but she already boasts a solid list of 17 acting credits. Her most recognized role to date is in the 2020 suspense mystery “Hunter Hunter,” a chilling story about a rogue wolf threatening a family in the remote wilderness. Alongside that breakout, she has made her mark in projects like “Clouds,” “Spirit in the Blood,” and “Curse of Chucky,” where she played the memorable role of young Alice.

That performance came when she was just eight years old, and it allowed Summer to work closely with genre veterans like Fiona Dourif, Danielle Bisutti, and Brennan Elliott. Her portrayal earned her her first acting award and firmly placed her on the radar as a promising young talent. Since then, she has continued to build a career rooted in horror, most recently appearing in Netflix’s “Time Cut.”
Ironically, despite her strong ties to the genre, Summer revealed to The American Teen Mag that she does not actually enjoy watching horror films and is pretty easily scared by them. The actress explained that working on horror sets doesn’t frighten her because she reads the scripts in advance and spends hours around the makeup and visual effects teams. Still, stepping into the world of Stephen King is a whole new challenge—and fans are eager to see how she fares.
