Speaking with Entertainment Tonight ahead of “Ice Age: Boiling Point,” the actor reflected on the financial stability and creative freedom the animated films have given him over the years.

John Leguizamo Says ‘Ice Age’ Became One of the Most Rewarding Jobs of His Career

For more than two decades, Leguizamo has been one of the defining voices of the “Ice Age” series, which remains one of the highest-grossing animated franchises ever produced. A sixth installment is set to arrive in theaters in February 2027, bringing back much of the original voice cast.

As anticipation builds for the new film, Leguizamo offered a rare glimpse into what the franchise has meant beyond the recording booth. Looking back on its financial impact, he joked, “It paid my bills! It got me a second and a triple home. It paid for my kids’ college.”

The actor also made it clear that Sid has remained one of his favorite characters because of the freedom the role provides. In contrast with many of his live-action performances, animation gave him room to lean fully into comedy. As he put it, the franchise “allowed me to be really as funny as I want to be.”

Expanding on that thought, Leguizamo said, “Movies are more dramatic usually, but in that, I got to be hilarious. I got to be so silly and create this incredible character and creature.” The return of Sid in “Ice Age: Boiling Point” comes as Leguizamo is also enjoying a successful year on the big screen with Christopher Nolan’s epic “The Odyssey,” where he appears alongside an ensemble cast led by Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, and Charlize Theron.
