After months of rumors, TMZ has reported that Jennifer Lopez has filed for divorce from Ben Affleck on August 20, exactly two years after their Georgia wedding. According to the documents, she listed their date of separation as April 26, 2024.
The rumors started when Lopez, 55. arrived solo at the Met Gala in New York City back in May, in which she was co-chair. At the time, Affleck, 52, was shooting The Accountant 2. Despite the couple being later seen together in Los Angeles, several reports of a separation started circulating.
The couple first tied the knot in Las Vegas in July 2022 after rekindling their relationship from 20 years earlier, a romance that tabloids had famously dubbed “Bennifer” and was a major focus of media coverage in the early 2000s.
Lopez and Affleck to end their marriage
While the couple tried to maintain their separation private, speculation remained as they didn’t acknowledge their Las Vegas wedding anniversary on July 16, even spending the day apart on opposite coasts.
During Jennifer’s birthday, which she spent without Affleck, it was reported that the “Argo” director bought a $20 million mansion in LA. Meanwhile, Lopez sold her New York City penthouse for $23 million.
In June, the pair listed their $60 million Beverly Hills, Calif., home for sale.However, a source close to the couple claimed that they were selling their marital mansion because Affleck “never liked the house” because “It’s too far away from his kids,” the source told People.
After their 2004 split, Lopez married Marc Anthony, with whom she has two children, while Affleck married Jennifer Garner, and they had three children together: Violet, 18, Seraphina, 15, and Samuel, 12.
