In a recent interview with Esquire, Ortega explained that the characters are now reaching their final years of high school, bringing questions about family, adulthood and their plans for the future into sharper focus. Season 3 is currently expected to arrive sometime in 2027, although Netflix has not announced an official premiere date.

Wednesday Is Facing a New Chapter as She Gets Closer to Adulthood

Wednesday has always approached life on her own terms, but Season 3 will put her in a situation where even she may have to reconsider what comes next. Ortega explained that the new season is particularly focused on the fact that “the kids are seniors in high school now,” bringing them closer to a transition that Wednesday cannot simply investigate her way around.

According to Ortega, that stage of life will bring “more confrontational feelings regarding family and what it means to be an adult and what you see for your life.” For Wednesday, whose relationship with her family has often been complicated, those questions could become particularly significant as she approaches the end of her time at Nevermore.

The actress also suggested that Wednesday’s uncertainty will extend beyond her relationships. “She’s questioning everything,” Ortega said, adding that this happens “even more than usual.”

Ortega described the realization that accompanies this stage of life in particularly direct terms. “It’s not really until you get to the precipice of adulthood that you start to realize, Oh, God, well, maybe I’ve got to have a plan.” For a character who has typically operated according to her own rules, the idea of having to plan for life beyond school introduces a different kind of conflict.

The new season will still have plenty of supernatural and family mysteries for Wednesday to deal with. Season 2 ended with her leaving to search for Enid alongside Uncle Fester and Thing, while a vision revealed that her maternal aunt Ophelia was being held captive and had written a disturbing warning about Wednesday.
