Variety’s Awards Circuit, curated by chief awards editor Clayton Davis, currently ranks Navarrette fourth among its predicted nominees for Best Actress in its latest update, published August 13.

Inde Navarrette Breaks Into Variety’s Best Actress Predictions

Navarrette appears alongside a competitive group that includes Julianne Moore in first place for “The Debut,” Rosalind Eleazar in second for “Misty Green,” Marion Bailey in third for “Tender Loving Care,” and Sandra Hüller in fifth for “Fatherland.” Navarrette’s position puts her directly inside Variety’s current projected lineup for the category.

Her placement comes after “Obsession” turned Navarrette into one of the film’s biggest talking points. She plays Nikki Freeman, a young woman whose life spirals into supernatural horror after a wish causes her to become dangerously obsessed with her friend. The role requires Navarrette to move between emotional vulnerability and increasingly extreme physical and psychological states.

The performance has already translated into recognition outside the Oscar conversation. Navarrette won Best Performance at the 2026 Seattle International Film Festival and later took home Best Actress at the Astra Midseason Movie Awards. She also won Best Actress in a Horror Movie at the Critics Choice Super Awards.

“Obsession” itself has become a significant success story during the 2026 movie season. The picture was acquired by Focus Features after its Toronto International Film Festival premiere and went on to become a major theatrical success. Its worldwide gross has reached $488.2 million, while Navarrette’s performance has received widespread critical acclaim.
