In a new interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, the actor revealed that “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days” remains his biggest source of “mailbox money,” according to Deadline.

Released in 2003, “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days” paired McConaughey with Kate Hudson as two New Yorkers who enter a relationship while secretly pursuing completely different goals. Andie Anderson wants to prove she can drive a man away in 10 days for a magazine assignment, while Benjamin Barry makes a bet that he can get a woman to fall in love with him within the same time frame.

The movie became a commercial success, earning $177.5 million worldwide. More than 20 years later, however, its financial life has continued through residuals, something McConaughey highlighted when discussing the picture’s lasting place in his career.
“How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days is the gift that keeps on giving,” the actor said. “I think it’s probably my favorite romcom I’ve done.” McConaughey also recalled how the way audiences consumed the hit once made its residual payments easier to anticipate. “When it used to be just DVDs or cable, every March I’d get a big check because Valentine’s Day.”
He made it clear that none of his other rom-coms has matched the financial staying power of his pairing with Hudson. “And it still pays the best mailbox money of any film I’ve ever done. By far. By lengths.”
The actor also considers the picture an especially important part of his work in the genre. “But, I mean, look: the movie for me, for that genre, let me just own that genre. How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days … that’s a real anchor in the rom-com genre through time,” he said.
