After the success of “Bohemian Rhapsody,” it was clear that a wave of biopics was on the horizon. And indeed, the cinematic treatment of artists became a trend, with figures like Elton John and Amy Winehouse receiving their own films.

This year, all eyes were on Timothée Chalamet’s portrayal of Bob Dylan in “Complete Unknown,” set for release on December 25, 2024. However, the spotlight has shifted.

The announcement of Britney Spears’ biopic, based on her bestselling memoir “The Woman in Me” and featuring the rights to her entire discography, has certainly captivated attention. As fans began fancasting actresses to play the pop star, Emma Roberts—one of the most popular choices—has addressed the buzz surrounding her potential role.

Some fans prioritized physical resemblance, leading to heavy requests for Millie Bobby Brown. Others felt it was crucial for the actress to have dance and singing skills, with Addison Rae and Sabrina Carpenter emerging as top contenders. Meanwhile, many argued that acting talent was essential, making Emma Watson and Emma Roberts popular names in the conversation.

And these statements reached Emma Roberts herself! Even Britney’s former longtime assistant, Felicia Culotta, suggested to TMZ that Roberts could be a great choice. Emma responded to this buzz in an interview with Cosmopolitan, expressing her excitement.

“I was like, I love her assistant,” Emma said. “I mean, it’s my true dream to play Britney Spears. It’s a rumor, but I hope maybe it’ll come true. I mean, I remember I locked myself in my room and listened to In the Zone and said, I cannot leave this room until I memorize every word.”

Given that the biopic will be directed by John M. Chu, who cast Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande in his “Wicked” remake, it’s not far-fetched to consider that he might choose another A-list star for his upcoming project. Roberts could indeed be a strong contender—but we’ll have to wait for the official casting announcement.
