Garfield opened up about his relationship with the platform while discussing his latest movie, “The Magic Faraway Tree,” which arrives in U.S. theaters as he continues to balance major film projects with a deliberately low-profile public presence.
Andrew Garfield Has an Unexpected Instagram Habit
Garfield’s relationship with Instagram is not quite what fans might expect from an actor who has largely stayed away from the public-facing side of social media. He revealed that he does have a private account, giving him a way to browse the platform without turning his own life into content.

The actor also acknowledged that he can get pulled into the same endless scrolling that affects millions of other users. “I’m as addicted as anybody,” Garfield admitted, before revealing that his own screen-time reports are difficult to look at.
For Garfield, the problem goes beyond simply spending too much time on his phone. “My screen time notifications are horrific to me. It’s like, I’ve given all of those hours to nothing,” he said. He also described the design behind those habits as “pretty dark when you look at it.”
Despite his concerns about Instagram, Garfield has found some particularly niche corners of the platform. His browsing can lead him into “weird ceramics” and “lots of Japanese kind of craftspeople.”
The confession comes as Garfield promotes “The Magic Faraway Tree,” the fantasy adventure directed by Ben Gregor. The film stars Garfield alongside Claire Foy, Nicola Coughlan, Nonso Anozie, Jessica Gunning, Jennifer Saunders and Rebecca Ferguson, and follows a family whose move to the countryside leads their children to a magical world hidden beyond the titular tree.
