“Criminal Record,” a crime thriller starring Academy Award and BAFTA winner Peter Capaldi, is currently the second most-watched series on Apple TV+ worldwide, according to FlixPatrol, a specialized website that collects viewership data.
Capaldi is mostly known for his run as the titular doctor in the series “Doctor Who,” as well as “The Thick of It”. He also has appeared in films such as “Paddington” and “The Suicide Squad.” In this series, he shares the screen with Cush Jumbo (“The Good Wife,” “The Good Fight,” “The Beast Must Die”).

Paul Rutman is behind “Criminal Record”
The series was created by Paul Rutman, who is known for titles such as “Vera” and “Indian Summers.” This time, he brings a character-driven drama which is set in London, and follows Detective Chief Inspector Daniel Hegarty (Capaldi), a respected officer, and Detective Sergeant June Lenker (Jumbo), a young woman in the early stage of her career, as they clash over an old murder case.
According to the press release from Apple TV+, the show, directed by BAFTA Award winner Jim Loach and Shaun James Grant, touches on issues of race, institutional failure and the quest to find common ground in a polarized Britain. The rest of the cast includes:
