After an incredible first season of “My Lady Jane“, Prime Video has canceled the series, and fans won’t see the arrival of new episodes. It was truly a surprise, considering the number of views it garnered.

The fantasy and romance drama was an adaptation of the novel of the same name written by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton and Jodi Meadows, which centers on an alternative and comedic version of the real-life story of Lady Jane Grey.

Edward Bluemel and Emily Bader, who will soon appear in the movie People We Meet on Vacation, are the protagonists of this story, which blends comedy and fantasy elements, offering a lighthearted reinterpretation.

Why was My Lady Jane cancelled?

Seven weeks after the premiere of My Lady Jane’s first season, Amazon decided not to renew the series for new episodes, which was a big surprise since it was the most-watched for several days.

Despite this, Deadline reported that “it didn’t find a wide enough audience and never made it onto Nielsen’s top 10 streaming original series rankings“. Nielsen is a company that analyzes audiences, collecting data on total viewing time.

Creatively, it was quite original and performed well in the catalog. However, crossing genres like historical romance and comedy wasn’t enough to secure a second season. Some actors bid farewell to the series on their social media.

Emily Bader was one of them and in her Instagram stories, she posted two photos of herself on set, saying, “Love you all, thanks for watching” and then added, “thank you to the brilliant creators and collaborators that made MLJ possible“.
