Netflix is gearing up for the March 6 launch of “Boyfriend on Demand,” a glossy romantic comedy that blends technology, fantasy, and heartfelt emotion. Originally developed for Korean broadcaster MBC before being reimagined as a Netflix Original, the 10 episode series pairs BLACKPINK’s Jisoo with acclaimed actor Seo In-guk in a story about love in the digital age. With just one week to go until its debut, anticipation is running high among K-drama fans worldwide.

A Virtual Romance With Real World Stakes

At the center of the story is Seo Mi rae, played by Jisoo, an overworked webtoon producer who turns to a subscription based virtual reality dating service to escape her exhausting routine. Inside this carefully programmed digital universe, she can meet and interact with partners designed to match her ideal preferences. What begins as a harmless retreat slowly becomes more complicated as the emotional lines between simulation and reality start to blur.

Seo In guk portrays Park Kyeong nam, a key figure in Mi rae’s life. The drama plays with the tension between fantasy and authenticity, questioning whether perfectly curated affection can truly replace the unpredictability of real relationships.

Director Kim Jung-sik, known for his work on “Work Later, Drink Now,” has described the show as having an anthology like structure. Each virtual scenario introduces Mi rae to different romantic settings and personalities, allowing Jisoo to explore varied tones and even alternate identities within the simulation.

Beyond its two leads, the production boasts an impressive lineup of special appearances including Seo Kang-joon, Lee Soo-hyuk, and Lee Jae-wook, among others. Adding another layer of buzz, NCT’s Doyoung contributes a ballad to the soundtrack, a track recorded before his military enlistment and previewed earlier this year. With its high concept premise, star power, and polished production, the series is shaping up to be one of Netflix’s most talked about Korean releases of 2026.
