‘Real Steel,’ a charming box office hit that triumphs on Netflix

The movie follows Charlie Kenton (Jackman), a former boxer who has fallen on hard times. Charlie ekes out a living by piecing together low-end robots to compete in underground matches, but his life takes a dramatic turn when he learns that his estranged 11-year-old son, Max (Goyo), needs a guardian after his mother’s death.

Upon its release, “Real Steel” garnered mostly mixed reviews. Critics praised the film’s visual effects, the heartfelt performances of Jackman and Goyo, and the father-son relationship at the story’s core. Another standout were the robot fight scenes, choreographed with the help of boxing legend Sugar Ray Leonard.

However, some critics felt the plot was predictable and relied too heavily on sports drama clichés. Despite this, “Real Steel” found favor with audiences, earning a respectable box office return and building a devoted fan base over time.
