“Goyo” is the new Argentine film on Netflix that delves into the complex world of neurodiversity through the life of the titular protagonist, portrayed by one of the most talented stars: Nicolás Furtado.
The actor is known for other high-caliber works such as the series “El Marginal“, where he portrayed Diosito for five seasons. The recent drama added to streaming has been causing sensations, especially as the Top 3 worldwide.
The romantic comedy follows a young autistic museum guide who lives by a very strict routine. Until he falls in love with a coworker (portrayed by Nancy Dupláa) and must confront a whirlwind of new and intense emotions.
Is Netflix’s Goyo based on a true story?
No! Goyo is not based on a true story, but it does attempt to reflect on inclusion, differences, and how love can break barriers, as its main character (which was interpreted by Nicolás Furtado) is a man with Asperger’s.
Marcos Carnevale (Elsa & Fred, Anita and Padre Coraje) directed and wrote the plot that follows the film. The filmmaker is known for handling complex themes with perfect sensitivity and humor, but not lightly.
He not only consulted with various organizations working with people on the autism spectrum but also had the advice and endorsement of specialists from multiple organizations, such as Fundación Discar and Asociación Liga Asperger 7.
“The character of Goyo is very touching. We all know someone like him, whether it’s a neighbor, a friend, or a friend’s friend. People identify with someone who has neurodiversity, and I think that’s the key to the film’s global success”, said Martín Kweller.
The CEO and Chairman of Kuarzo Entertainment spoke with Teleshow and added, “It’s a theme we can all identify with. I won’t reveal the ending for those who haven’t seen it yet, but it’s evident that when someone lacks empathy or emotional intelligence, they can make mistakes without realizing it“.
