‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ Sets a New Benchmark for the Franchise

The updated score positions “The Devil Wears Prada 2” in an unusual category for legacy follow-ups. While the original picture built its reputation over time, the sequel has arrived with a slightly stronger critical consensus out of the gate.

Directed by David Frankel and written by Aline Brosh McKenna, the new film reunites its central cast, including Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci.

Set years after the events of the first entry, the story revisits Andy Sachs as she reconnects with Miranda Priestly amid broader changes in publishing. Emily Charlton, now a senior figure within the luxury fashion world, becomes a key player in the narrative.

Development of the sequel was not immediate. Despite the original movie’s enduring popularity, both Streep and Hathaway had previously expressed hesitation about revisiting their roles. Momentum began to build in 2024, when the project formally moved forward with the original creative team returning and the principal cast committing to reprise their performances.

Filming took place across major fashion and media hubs, including Manhattan and Milan. Following its premiere in New York on April 20, the title is set for a wide theatrical release on May 1 through 20th Century Studios.
