The record-breaking preview haul places “Spider-Man: Brand New” Day in rare company before its first full weekend in theaters. Industry projections now suggest the film could earn between $260 million and $280 million domestically during its debut, a result that would rank behind only “Avengers: Endgame” among the biggest opening weekends ever. While some forecasts have climbed even higher, Sony has maintained a more conservative estimate in the $190 million to $195 million range.
Even if it falls closer to the studio’s official projection, the picture has already demonstrated extraordinary demand. Only a handful of releases have ever crossed the $200 million mark in their domestic opening weekends, making “Brand New Day” a strong contender to join one of the industry’s most exclusive groups.
The new film also arrives carrying significant expectations after the enormous success of “Spider-Man: No Way Home.” Unlike its predecessor, which reunited Tom Holland with Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, “Brand New Day” follows Peter Parker in the aftermath of Doctor Strange’s memory-altering spell, leaving him to protect New York without the support of those who once knew his secret identity.
