If there’s a project that has caught the attention of fans is Bong Joon-ho’s upcoming sci-fi thriller starring Robert Pattinson, “Mickey17.” However, the movie has been under production for longer than expected, raising concerns about whether it’s going to live up to the hype.
Produced by Warner Bros. the film has been delayed twice, and it’s now going to be released in 2025. Sources told Variety back in January that the decision was made to “allow more time to finish the project, which had been affected due to last year’s strikes and other various production shifts.” The outlet also reported that the film has a $150m production budget.
However, the talent behind the camera isn’t cause for worry. This will be the first project for the director since the Oscar-winning “Parasite” became a global phenomenon. Apart from directing, Bong Joon-ho also writes and produces. Here’s what we know about the “Mickey17.”
‘Mickey17’ Release Date: When is the film coming out in theaters?
The movie will be released on January 31, 2025. The movie was first slated to be released on March 29, 2024. However, according to a Feb. 21 article from Variety, Warner Bros. executives are reportedly “less pumped” about the project. Still, a Warner rep told the outlet: “There is, of course, enthusiasm for it.”
What is ‘Mickey17’ about?
The film is based on Edward Ashton’s book “Mickey7” and revolves around Pattinson’s character, an “expendable” employee assigned to a mission to colonize the icy world of Niflheim. Despite being considered disposable, he rebels against the idea of being replaced by his clone.
Warner Bros. released a mysterious teaser in December 2022, offering fans a sneak peek of the movie with Pattinson awakening in a chamber. However, that’s the only official image that they have published so far.
Who is in the cast of the film?
Pattinson, who collaborates with the Korean director for the first time, will be accompanied on the screen by Toni Colette, Mark Ruffalo, Naomi Ackie, and Steven Yeun. Filming took place between August and December 2022.
