Mark Wahlberg is always in the spotlight. Since his acting debut in 1993 with the television film “The Substitute,” he has continually expanded his presence in the industry, now boasting 57 acting credits and 44 producer endeavours.
The star has mastered the art of generating income not only by starring in movies but also by financing them. This dual role has granted him the creative freedom to make decisions he couldn’t as just an actor. For instance, it’s rumored that for his latest picture, “The Union,” he earned $10 million and ensured that Halle Berry received the same—an uncommon feat in Hollywood, where gender pay inequality remains prevalent.
Now, he’s channeling his resources into several upcoming titles, including “The Six Billion Dollar Man,” a flick based on the popular ’70s TV series “The Six Million Dollar Man,” “The Roman,” which will explore the origin story of Julius Caesar, and a surprising Argentina-themed project that no one saw coming!
Mark Wahlberg teases new movie about Argentina and the World Cup
In recent weeks, Mark Wahlberg has been busy promoting “The Union,” bringing him into contact with journalists from around the world. On August 22, he spoke with Infobae, an Argentinian news outlet, and shared surprising details about one of his upcoming projects connected to the South American nation:
“Can I tell you, share something that I’m learning right now? And that I think the people of Argentina are going to love more than anything? I’m making a movie where I save the World Cup for Argentina. And I’m learning football.”
This revelation came as a surprise, as Wahlberg currently has no listed IMDb projects related to this theme. So far, his only future football-related works include a documentary about the FBI’s capture of Owen Hanson and “Balls Up,” a film about two American marketing executives who, after being fired for losing a sponsorship deal, decide to use their free tickets to a major soccer match.
It’s possible that the Argentina-themed movie Wahlberg mentioned is connected to this latter production, or it could be an entirely new endeavor that hasn’t yet been made public. We’ll hear more details about it in the coming months, since the actor stated the flick will be released in 2025.
This wouldn’t be the first, nor the last, title to document Argentina’s epic journey to winning the 2022 World Cup with Lionel Messi leading the team. Beloved Argentinian actors Ricardo Darín and Guillermo Francella each narrated the story in two different pictures, “Elijo creer” and “Muchachos,” while Netflix is preparing a docuseries about Ángel Di María titled “Breaking Down the Wall.”
