After walking away from Hollywood at the peak of her fame in 2014 to focus on personal growth, the star has successfully returned to acting entirely on her own terms.

A Decade Away: Prioritizing Family and Avaline

Following the release of Annie in 2014, Diaz made the deliberate choice to step back from acting. Explaining that she needed to “reclaim her own life,” she spent her hiatus building a private home life away from paparazzi and launching her clean wine brand, Avaline, alongside partner Katherine Power in 2020.

In January 2015, she married Good Charlotte musician Benji Madden. Over the past decade, the couple has built a grounded family life in California, expanding their household to three children:

Diaz has been vocal about the joy of entering motherhood in her late 40s and 50s, describing parenting as “the most rewarding thing I’ve ever done”.

Returning to the Screen on Her Terms

After an 11-year break from the big screen, Diaz officially ended her acting hiatus by starring alongside Jamie Foxx in Netflix’s action-comedy Back in Action. Following that success, she re-entered studio filmmaking with Jonah Hill’s dark comedy Outcome, starring opposite Keanu Reeves and Matt Bomer.

As she steps into 54, Diaz continues to prove that career milestones and personal fulfillment don’t follow a rigid Hollywood timeline—balancing a thriving home life with selective, passion-driven creative projects.
