Kristen Stewart has made her big comeback to the screen, this time with a romantic drama that will leave you speechless, not only because of its outgoing scenes but also because of the unexpected twists that the plot holds.
Although Love Lies Bleeding cannot be streamed yet, as it is only available in theaters, its debut date and platform have already been announced. If all goes well, it will arrive on Max at the end of 2024.
The Twilight actress stars in the movie alongside Anna Baryshnikov, Katy O’Brian, Dave Franco and Jena Malone. So far, the reviews have been positive, with many praising the performances of the main stars.
Is ‘Love Lies Bleeding’ based on a true story?
Well, no. Love Lies Bleeding is not based on a true story or a specific book, but rather is a 100 percent original creation by director Rose Glass and Weronika Tofilska. The idea originated from the wonderful minds of those who also took charge of co-adapting the screenplay.
The narrative is set in the 1980s and follows the relationship between a lonely gym owner, a criminal family and an ambitious bodybuilder. Each of these elements forms a whole in this intriguing and passionate thriller.
The romance, fueled by ego, desire and the American dream, was led by Kristen Stewart in the role of Lou, Katy O’Brian as Jackie, Ed Harris as Lou Sr. and Jena Malone as Beth, among others.
O’Brian, who plays a rising bodybuilder, spoke with W Magazine and confessed what drew her attention to this specific project. Her response was not only related to the filmmaker but also to her own castmate.
There she said: “Every little thing that I learned about the movie made me want to do it even more. I’m a big A24 fan and Rose Glass was the director—her film Saint Maud was phenomenal—so already I was like, check, check.
Plus, it’s a queer movie and Kristen Stewart was already attached to it; I never thought in a million years that I would meet her. And when I was told that it was set in the ’80s, it was game over. Eighties bodybuilding was the time for bodybuilding. It was so freakish and unheard of for a woman to do that then”.
