Joseph Quinn (Stranger Things) and Lupita Nyong’o (Black Panther) joined forces to bring to life the next big horror film of the year, a post-apocalyptic thriller that expands the A Quiet Place franchise: the prequel titled Day One.

Michael Sarnoski directed the new installment, which is based on a script co-written by the filmmaker himself along with Bryan Woods and John Krasinski, who also is part of the cast from the first film, portraying the role of Lee Abbott.

The origins of how the chaos began now have a release date and will have its grand premiere in theaters on Friday, June 28, and after a few months, it will debut on the Paramount+ platform (7-day free trial).

Day One expands the A Quiet Place franchise in June

A Quiet Place was released in 2018 and since then has become one of the most popular, acclaimed, and successful horror films of the genre. Despite its relatively modest budget, it managed to raise a considerable amount of money, also becoming one of the most profitable titles of that year.

It introduced innovative concepts to the horror genre by focusing on the need to remain silent to avoid being hunted by mysterious creatures. This unique premise attracted attention and generated interest in how the film would address suspense and narrative without relying heavily on dialogue.

Therefore, it was expected that in addition to its two installments, it would have a prequel, explaining how the chaos originated. Day One is set in the same post-apocalyptic universe and explores the origins of the catastrophic event that led to the invasion of deadly creatures highly sensitive to sound.

The film focuses on the early days of the apocalypse and how humanity struggled to survive in a world where any noise could attract the lethal creatures. In June 2024, it will hit the big screen, with Joseph Quinn and Lupita Nyong’o leading the cast, accompanied by Denis O’Hare, Alex Wolff and Djimon Hounsou.

The prequel aims to offer viewers a more complete and detailed view of the universe created in A Quiet Place, revealing the events that led to the state of extreme survival shown in the first installment, which was nominated for an Oscar and starred Emily Blunt and John Krasinski.
