What could be better than a witch movie? A witch movie starring Sandra Bullockand Nicole Kidman, of course. Despite being released in 1995, “Practical Magic” has returned to the spotlight, ranking among the most-watched movies on Max in the United States.
This resurgence in popularity is partly due to the film’s enduring quality, but there’s more to the story. A few days ago, Warner Bros. confirmed that a second installment of the Owens sisters story is in the works.
Will it feature Kidman and Bullock reprising their original roles? There are many doubts on the topic. In the meantime, viewers are thoroughly enjoying the original film.
‘Practical Magic’ is the No. 3 movie on Max US
Witch-themed movies have always been popular, especially in the 90s, and their demand never ceases. This explains why “Practical Magic” is currently the third most-watched picture on Max in the United States.
Amazingly, it’s close to outshining Dakota Johnson‘s recently released drama “Am I Ok?”, which has been praised by both critics and the public. Additionally, “Practical Magic” is holding its own against “Dune: Part Two,” which has remained the top contender since its addition to the catalog.
The comedy revolves around sisters Sally and Gillian, who come from a lineage of witches cursed so that every man they love will die tragically. Both experience this spell firsthand and must find a way to break it.
In addition to the leads, the production features stunning performances from Goran Visnjic, Stockard Channing, Dianne Wiest, Aidan Quinn, and more.
Although it was a box office failure, earning $68.3 million against a $75 million budget, it gained a cult following and is often regarded as one of the best films on the topics of magic and esotericism.
