Moses Sumney is primarily known as a singer and songwriter with a distinctive tenor voice, whose music is characterized by a unique fusion of genres including soul, folk, electronic and alternative R&B.

I think that it’s a heavily suggested mode of living. I think that anything that’s presented as normative is worth questioning, and I think that there are many ways to be in love, there are many degrees which you can love a person.

But I feel like mainstream society has a way of distilling and simplifying things so that they can be easily consumed and I think romantic love is one that’s being oversimplified and misrepresented—as less complex than it actually is.

Just look at Disney films or marketing campaigns, restaurants, bars, furniture… love sells. I think romanticism is a heavily utilized tool and so many industries are relying upon it. That influences the degree to which we desire romantic relationships—and what kind of romantic relationships“.

Sumney has a tenor voice and is known for his introspective and poetic lyrics that explore themes such as identity, intimacy and loneliness. He burst onto the independent music scene with the release of several EPs and singles starting in 2013.

His debut album, “Aromanticism“, released in 2017, received critical acclaim and established his reputation as an innovative musical talent. He has also collaborated with artists such as Sufjan Stevens, James Blake and Bon Iver, further expanding his influence in contemporary music.

Moses Sumney’s acting career

Moses Sumney has not only shone in the music scene but has also decided to continue expanding his list of talents by adding acting. Some of his most well-known movies are Michel B. Jordan’s Creed and The Weeknd’s The Idol.

However, on August 23, one of his latest big projects will premiere on the big screen: “MaXXXine“, the third and final installment of the horror trilogy starring Mia Goth (Emma. and Suspiria).

In the drama directed by Ti West, the star takes on the role of Leon, a cinephile reminiscent of Randy in the Scream franchise. The actor spoke with Taji Mag about his role in Ti West’s upcoming film and said:

I think people can expect to see someone who loves cinema. His interests are very specific, and he feels an incredible passion for them. Anyone who has liked something, especially something niche or alternative, can really identify with it“.
