Britney Spears was taken into custody Wednesday evening in Ventura County on suspicion of driving under the influence, Variety informed. Officers from the California Highway Patrol detained the singer at roughly 9:30 p.m., and she was formally processed several hours later, shortly after 3 a.m. on Thursday. Public records show that she has since been released and is due back in court on May 4.
The incident once again places the pop star at the center of a legal headline, years after the end of her conservatorship reshaped both her autonomy and her public narrative.
