The new DC Universe is beginning to knit its characters together across film and television. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Aaron Pierre will appear in the upcoming picture “Man of Tomorrow” after making his franchise debut as Green Lantern John Stewart in HBO’s “Lanterns.”
Aaron Pierre’s DC Journey Begins With ‘Lanterns’
Pierre is set to introduce audiences to John Stewart in the HBO series “Lanterns,” a drama built around the Green Lantern Corps that follows veteran Lantern Hal Jordan and his new recruit investigating a mysterious murder in Nebraska.
The series, developed by Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King, approaches superhero mythology through a grounded investigative lens. Starring Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan alongside Pierre, the show is scheduled to debut in August and will consist of eight episodes.
Pierre’s appearance in the sequel film “Man of Tomorrow” marks one of the earliest crossovers within the rebooted DC continuity overseen by James Gunn and Peter Safran. Gunn has described the movie as the next major chapter in what he calls the “Superman saga.” While the story is expected to center on the Man of Steel, the picture will also place significant emphasis on the rivalry and uneasy alliance between Superman and Lex Luthor.
The project continues the storyline launched by “Superman” and is scheduled to reach theaters on July 9, 2027. David Corenswet is expected to return as Superman, with Nicholas Hoult reprising his role as Lex Luthor. The title will also introduce Brainiac as a major antagonist, played by Lars Eidinger. Production is expected to begin in April at Trilith Studios in Georgia.
For Pierre, the role expands what has already become a rapidly accelerating career. The London born actor first gained wider attention in projects such as “The Underground Railroad” and the thriller “Rebel Ridge,” before lending his voice to Mufasa in “Mufasa: The Lion King.” His casting as John Stewart placed him at the center of DC Studios’ long term plans, and his upcoming appearance alongside Superman suggests that the studio intends to position the character as a key player in the evolving cinematic universe.
