Apple TV+ sci-fi productions are among the most popular titles on the platform. This is evidenced by the astonishing popularity of “Dark Matter,” which, within just 24 hours of releasing its first two episodes, has become the most-watched series worldwide, according to FlixPatrol.
The title is an adaptation of Blake Crouch’s novel of the same name, which is regarded as his best work to date by many critics. Other books of his that have also made their way to the small screen include “Wayward Pines” and “Good Behavior.”
The series is gaining widespread attention for its exploration of tropes related to parallel universes and time travel, which are always trending. Additionally, it is being highly watched due to the success of other Apple TV+ shows of the same quality, such as “For All Mankind” and “Foundation.”
Dark Matter is the new No. 1 series on Apple TV+ worldwide
Since its announcement in December 2020, “Dark Matter” has been eagerly awaited by sci-fi enthusiasts. Therefore, it is not surprising to see the show ranked as the No. 1 series on Apple TV+ worldwide just one day after its release.
It has managed to surpass both new additions like “Sugar” and all-time favorites such as “Ted Lasso” or “The Morning Show.” Even the title occupying the second spot on the ranking, “Palm Royale,” which released its last episode yesterday, was unable to outshine Blake Crouch’s creation.
The production revolves around Jason Dessen, a Chicago physicist like any other. One day, he is kidnapped and taken to a parallel reality, where he decided to focus on his career instead of having a family and created a cube that allows traveling through all the outcomes of a single event.
The main cast is formed by Jennifer Connelly, Joel Edgerton, and Oakes Fegley, who play the roles of Jason, his wife, and his son. The rest of the cast features outstanding performances by Alice Braga, Jimmi Simpson, Dayo Okeniyi, and Marquita Brooks.
Although the series has only released two episodes, its followers are eagerly asking for a second season. For now, they can still enjoy the chapters airing weekly, with the last one being premiered on June 26.
