The holiday episodes will reunite key members of the creative team behind the Jane Austen-inspired drama, including writer Sarah Quintrell, director Asim Abbasi, and star Ella Bruccoleri.
Mary Bennet’s Story Continues This Holiday Season
The Christmas event is scheduled to begin filming in Wales later this summer. Quintrell, who was responsible for most of the original series’ scripts, is returning to write all three installments, drawing on storylines developed by author Janice Hadlow, whose novel inspired the television adaptation.
Released in March, “The Other Bennet Sister” reimagined the world of Jane Austen’s “Pride and Prejudice” through the eyes of Mary Bennet, the middle sister who often remained in the background of Austen’s classic novel. The hit initially revisited familiar events from Mary’s perspective before following her own path toward independence, self-discovery, and romance.
Ella Bruccoleri is set to reprise her role as Mary, with additional cast members from the original production expected to return. The first season featured an ensemble that included Richard E. Grant, Ruth Jones, Indira Varma, Richard Coyle, Laurie Davidson, Dónal Finn, and Tanya Reynolds.
The decision to extend the show follows a highly successful launch on both sides of the Atlantic. The drama became one of the BBC’s strongest-performing new series, while also delivering significant subscriber growth for BritBox in North America. Its strong reception was matched by critical praise, with reviewers highlighting the title’s fresh perspective on Austen’s world and Bruccoleri’s central performance.
