Minx has been one of the wildest and most popular series on Starz, so many are wondering if it will have a new season. Here, check out what actor Jake Johnson has said.

Minx quietly became a surprise hit, originally debuting on Max before getting the axe and then finding new life on Starz for its second season. The storyline follows a young woman navigating the 1970s who collaborates with a dubious publisher to launch the first adult entertainment magazine for women.

As the recently concluded second season leaves fans eagerly anticipating the future, actor Jake Johnson, who not only stars in but also co-executive produces the show, dropped a bombshell to Deadline about the future of the show.

As of December 2023, he remained in the dark about any word on Minx Season 3 and its potential renewal. He told the outlet: “But by evidence of me cutting my hair short, I don’t [expect a renewal].” However, creator Ellen Rapoport offers a different perspective.

Could Minx still be renewed?

While Johnson hints at a virtual cancellation, Rapoport insists that the Minx story is far from over. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, she declared her desire for a third season, stating, “We have a lot of stories to tell. I definitely want Season 3. Does anyone say no?”

Despite the creator’s enthusiasm, Starz has yet to officially renew the show. And, for Johnson, it would be hard for the show to take so many blows, especially after the move to Starz. “I think that was brutal for [the show],” Johnson told Deadline. “Then, I think the strike coming out right as we were trying to promote it…My guess is you can’t beat something up that many times and keep going.”

The ensemble cast includes Ophelia Lovibond as Joyce Prigger, Michael Angarano as Glenn (season 1), Jessica Lowe as Bambi, Oscar Montoya as Richie, Lennon Parham as Shelly, Idara Victor as Tina, and Jake Johnson as Doug Renetti.

The show garnered favorable reviews, earning a 97% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes for its first season and an 87% for the second. Described as a cheeky and sharp comedy, critics praised the chemistry between Ophelia Lovibond and Jake Johnson.
