This week on Netflix US, Kevin Hart’s “Lift” is the most-watched movie within days of its release. However, according to FlixPatrol, the second position goes to Denzel Washington’s action thriller “The Equalizer 3,” which was released in theaters in August, 2023.

The film, which arrived on the platform on January 1st, stars Washington as Robert McCall, a retired U.S. Marine and DIA officer. This time, McCall is in a small town in South Italy but when he discovers that his new friends are intimidated by local crime bosses, he sets out to free them.

Directed by Antoine Fuqua, “The Equalizer 3” serves as the ending film of the trilogy. Apart from Washington, Dakota Fanning, Eugenio Mastrandrea, David Denman, Gaia Scodellaro, and Remo Girone appear in supporting roles.

The Equalizer 3 was a box office success

“The Equalizer 3” success on Netflix only two weeks after arriving on the platform isn’t surprising, considering that the film also smashed the box office. During its theatrical run, the thriller grossed $191 million worldwide against a $70 million budget.

It also received positive reviews from critics, scoring a 76% of approval on Rotten Tomatoes. While the extreme violence and script were divisive, Washington’s performance, the cinematography and score were praised.

The rest of the Top 5 movies of the week on Netflix are, according to FlixPatrol: the romantic drama “After Everything,” the survival drama “Society of the Snow,” and the animated film “The Super Mario Bros. Movie.”

Will ‘The Equalizer 3’ have a sequel?

While the film is considered to be the final film of the franchise, Fuqua has expressed interest in making a prequel of Robert McCall’s origins. Speaking to JoBlo, the director admitted that it would be a “cool” idea, and that Michael B. Jordan or John David Washington, son of Denzel, would also be great in the role of a young Robert McCall.

Meanwhile, speaking with Entertainment Weekly, the director said that he “didn’t see [another Equalizer movie] happening” but he would be open to it if Denzel Washington would like to do another one. However, the actor hasn’t expressed that he would do it.
