The second season of the adult anime “Blood of Zeus” premiered on Netflix on May 10 and in only two days, the series has become one of the trending titles on the platform. In the US, according to FlixPatrol, the show is currently the eighth most watched of the Top 10.

Created by Charley and Vlas Parlapanides, the series is regarded as one of the best American anime in recent years, as well as one of the best series about mythology. Both seasons have a 100% approval score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Like other mythological series, such as “Percy Jackson,” this story features characters that are not part of the official mythological canon, such as the protagonist Heron. However, it also features gods, demigods and other creatures from the original Greek tales.

‘Blood of Zeus’ returns with a successful second season to Netflix

As we said, “Blood of Zeus” is set in mythical ancient Greece and centers around Heron (voiced by Derek Phillips), the demigod son of Zeus (Jason O’Mara), trying to save Olympus and Earth from an army of demons. However, he will also have to deal with Hera (Claudia Christian), as she learns of his existence and vows revenge.

The cast also includes Elias Toufexis as Seraphim, Mamie Gummer as Electra, Chris Diamantopoulos as Poseidon, Jessica Henwick as Alexia, Melina Kanakaredes as Ariana, Matthew Mercer as Hermes, Fred Tatasciore as Hades, Adam Croasdell as Apollo, Hephaestus and more.

Will ‘Blood of Zeus’ have a third season?

Creators Charley and Vlas Parlapanides told Inverse back when Season 1 was released that they had planned a story as a “five-season arc,” however the renewal of the series depended on viewership and more. And they reiterated this idea in a new interview with What’s On Netflix, even revealing their pitch for a potential ending:

“So the original pitch was that we eventually get to know a Ragnarok end-time story by the end of season five, and then it’s just a question of whether we’ll be afforded the opportunity to get there. We’ll see, but it’s the idea of, like, what happens, you know, to the gods and how their world came to an end,” explained Charley.

However, fans of the world of “Blood of Zeus” can also have hope to see more of the Greek Gods in Netflix, as they are also working on a new spin-off about Medusa, which will hopefully be released by the platform. Charley described it as “an epic story. For us, one of the most iconic Greek mythological figures.”
