Netflix is bringing a new layer of depth to one of pop culture’s most beloved icons. The streaming giant has announced a documentary on Olivia Newton-John, the late singer and actress whose voice and presence defined generations. While many know her as Sandy from “Grease” or for her chart-topping hits like “Physical,” this project promises to go beyond the spotlight.
Described as a tribute but also an exploration, the production will feature never-before-seen footage, personal reflections, and intimate moments from her life. For fans who thought they already knew Olivia, this documentary hints at revelations and emotional truths that have remained out of view—until now.

Her most recent film, “The Disappearance of Shere Hite,” premiered at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival, earned a spot on the influential DOC NYC Awards Short List, and received a Special Mention for Editing, credited to editor Eileen Meyer.
According to the streamer, the film will unfold “in her own words, through vivid archival [footage] and reminiscences from close friends and collaborators,” tracing Olivia’s meteoric rise to fame and the personal battles she faced behind the scenes.
Newnham told in a statement that Deadline shared, “Olivia always signed her letters ‘love and light,’ and that is the shimmering and hopeful legacy she has left us. As a young girl, I fell in love with her, listening to Grease on the record player on repeat. But this unique filmmaking journey—deep into the archives and into the amazing community of Olivia’s close friends and family—has revealed a complex and extraordinary woman whose impact on the world is still rippling outwards.”
