Prime Video’s ‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’ has competition with Netflix’s ‘My Life With the Walter Boys,’ which has become one of the most successful series on the platform, with more than 12 million views in its first week. And, luckily for fans, the show has been renewed for a second season as Netflix announced on Dec. 19 with a video of the cast.
The show follows recently orphaned Jackie Howard (Nikki Rodriguez), a teenage girl from Manhattan who relocates to rural Colorado after she goes to live with her mother’s best friend’s family, the Walters. And, of course, she has a messy love triangle with two of the brothers.
Based on the book of the same name by Ali Novak, the series will now depart from the original story. While there’s no release date in sight, showrunner Melanie Halsall and star Rodriguez have talked about what fans can expect from season 2.
What will Season 2 of ‘My Life With The Walter Boys’ be about?
Speaking to Deadline, Halsall admitted she hasn’t figured out all the details yet, including what’s next for Jackie in New York after Episode 10. She mentioned the story is set in Silver Falls and expressed the intention to return for Season 2.

She also explained that the decision of altering the book’s original ending was taken with the idea of having multiple seasons before pitching the show to Netflix, envisioning it as a long-running series. She said that “we’ve also got a town full and school full of fantastic ensemble characters that I think have incredibly rich storytelling opportunities.”
Meanwhile, Rodriguez also told the outlet that while the ending was a bit of a shock, she hopes for Jackie “that she doesn’t get too off track and doesn’t get too distracted and just remember what she really wants.”
This is a sentiment shared by Halsall, who also said that she wanted to “surprise the audience” and wanted “to leave it open ended”, as she thinks that “maybe Jackie won’t end up with a boy but she’ll end up on her own. Maybe that’s still the case. It was a deliberate decision to make that change, and I think it was organic to the story.”
What could be the potential release date for Season 2?
Regarding the potential release date, it’s likely to be early 2025. Given that the first season came out in December 2023 and the trend of streaming seasons not being exactly a year apart, a year and a half is more realistic. In that case, Season 2 of “My Life with the Walter Boys” would probably be in late spring 2025, possibly early spring if fortunate.
