To most “Toy Story” fans, the franchise reached its emotional peak with the third film, where Woody, Buzz, and the rest of the gang bid farewell to Andy as he left for college. Still, Pixar and Disney chose to continue the saga, delivering a fourth installment.
Set after Andy’s departure, “Toy Story 4” follows the toys on a road trip with Bonnie, who creates Forky—a spork-turned-toy made from recycled materials. Along the way, Woody reunites with Bo Peep and faces a pivotal decision about where he truly belongs. Though some feared the film might not resonate with longtime fans, it ultimately became the highest-grossing entry in the series, paving the way for a fifth chapter.
Now set to hit theaters on June 19, 2026, “Toy Story 5” is gradually taking shape. The latest reveal? Comedy icon and late-night TV legend Conan O’Brien has joined the cast, promising a dose of sharp humor in the toy box.

As reported by Variety, Conan O’Brien has joined the cast of “Toy Story 5” as the voice of a new character named Smarty Pants. O’Brien also took to social media to share the news, joking that he initially lobbied for the role of Woody or Buzz Lightyear—voiced by Tom Hanks and Tim Allen—but quickly learned that Smarty Pants is “the best character of them all.”

Alongside the returning duo, other confirmed cast members include Tony Hale reprising his role as Forky, Ernie Hudson as Combat Carl, and Anna Faris in a mysterious, undisclosed role. While details remain under wraps, it’s expected that many beloved characters from earlier installments will return to continue the legacy.
According to the official synopsis from Disney and Pixar, the new story follows the toys as they face their most modern threat yet: technology. The franchise, known for its thoughtful exploration of childhood and play, now turns its attention to how digital distractions are replacing the tactile joys of real-life toys.
In a recent interview, Tim Allen revealed that this installment will shift its focus to Jessie, the spirited cowgirl who has long stood beside Woody and Buzz but has never truly taken center stage. With this new direction, “Toy Story 5” appears ready to shake up the formula and give a longtime fan favorite her long-overdue moment in the spotlight.
