House of the Dragon has not only been one of the strongest trends on Max, but it is about to premiere its second season, which will again be headlined by Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke and Emma D’Arcy.

The fantasy series, based on the universe of Game of Thrones, created by George R.R. Martin and Ryan Condal, is inspired by the book “Fire & Blood” and is a prequel, so there is still much to explore in the story.

The author of the saga himself confirmed in September 2023 that the franchise will continue to expand, as there are several spin-offs in development with HBO, and one of them will be the next after HOTD.

Which spin-off will follow House of the Dragon?

The next Game of Thrones adaptation after House of the Dragon will be “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight“, which will be based on the novellas by George R.R. Martin.

These novellas are known as “Dunk and Egg” and follow the adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall (Dunk) and his squire, a young Aegon V Targaryen (Egg), approximately 90 years before the events of the original series.

The upcoming fantasy and dragon drama will be set in the same world but in a different time period, with new characters and stories. Dexter Sol Ansell and Peter Claffey have been cast as the protagonists.

There is no official release date yet, but it has been confirmed that the first season will consist of six episodes, which are expected to be a great success. The official synopsis of the new TV prequel describes:

“A century before GOT, Ser Duncan the Tall and his squire, Egg, wandered Westeros, while the Targaryen dynasty ruled the Iron Throne and dragons were still remembered, great destinies and enemies awaited the friends”.
