The musical <a href="https://spoiler.bolavip.com/en/topic/drama">drama</a> is an adaptation of Alice Walker‘s novel, which is recognized for its powerful exploration of social issues and its focus on the resilience and strength of African American women.



<h2>The Color Purple ranked No. 1 on Max US</h2>



The Color Purple is not a newcomer to cinema but it is in the Max catalog, as it was added to the platform on February 16. After its much-anticipated arrival, users didn’t hesitate to give the drama a chance, making it the most-watched movie on the service in the United States currently.

According to Flix Patrol, the remake directed by Blitz Bazawule is here to stay, as it has been accumulating hundreds of views, propelling it to the top of the American Top 10, surpassing Wedding Crashers with Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn, and The Visit with Olivia DeJonge.



The story is set in the southern United States during the early decades of the 20th century and follows the life of Celie, an African American woman who faces multiple challenges throughout her life. 



The lead role is played by Fantasia Barrino, alongside Danielle Brooks, Taraji P. Henson, Colman Domingo and <a href="https://spoiler.bolavip.com/en/topic/halle-bailey">Halle Bailey</a>. The cast is quite extensive and is made up of first-rate stars who not only belong to the acting world but also to the music industry, as was the case with the singer H.E.R, who portrays Squeak.

The Daily Mail reported back in June 2023 that Woodall was set to star in the upcoming adaptation of “A Waiter in Paris,” the memoir by Edward Chisholm. The story follows Louis Baron, who arrives in Palm Springs driven by revenge, the dream of reuniting with his stolen family, and a dangerous plan to seize the billions of lithium in the Salton Sea. There will be blood in the sand and bones in the desert.



<h5>Alto Knights – November, 15</h5>



Wise Guys, also known as Alto Knights, is the crime and <a href="https://spoiler.bolavip.com/en/topic/drama">drama</a> biopic directed by Barry Levinson, with a script developed by Nicholas Pileggi. The film is expected to be released on November 15, 2024.



The story revolves around Vito Genovese and Frank Costello, two Italian-Americans who lead different crime families in the mid-20th century. In 1957, Genovese attempted to assassinate Costello, who later retired from the mafia.

From the long list of upcoming projects that Robert De Niro has, one of them remains quite cryptic, but it is an action film directed and written by Jonathan Jakubowicz.



So far, the cast is only confirmed with Edgar Ramírez in the role of J.M, while the Oscar-winning actor will portray G.B. The release date is yet to be announced, but indications suggest it won’t be in 2024.

The actor will portray Ted Delaney in the upcoming crime and drama film, After Exile. It will be directed by Dito Montiel, based on a script by Anthony Thorne and Michael Tovo, who was responsible for writing the story.

It’s the first part of the actress’ two-picture deal with the streamer.



In the trailer, which was released on Feb. 20th, we see Lohan as Maddie, a woman who is headed to Ireland for her best friend’s wedding. But there’s a problem: she is in love with the groom, Paul, played by Alexander Vlahos. So, as it happens, she makes a wish to find true love and wakes up as the bride-to-be.

Lohan, who is a veteran of the genre with titles such as “Just My Luck” or “The Parent Trap,” stars as Maddie, a very different character from her previous one in “Falling For Christmas.” The actress described Maddie as “a bit of a bookworm,” in an interview with Netflix Tudum back in November.



“She’s a nerd, which I loved playing. But she’s a sweetheart. She’s kind of naive, and she keeps it that way because her head is always focused on writing and stuff,” she said to Netflix.

The story follows Frigga, who tries to balance her risky job as the security head in the Kiirunavaara mine with her family life and must fight for her life and the lives of her loved ones when her city begins to collapse in the mine.

The film, which stars <a href="https://spoiler.bolavip.com/en/topic/britney-spears">Britney Spears</a> and Zoe Saldana, is celebrating 22 years since its release and it has become a cult classic.



The coming-of-age drama was directed by Tamra Davis, who is known for her work on other notable films such as “Billy Madison” and “Half Baked.” It was Spears’ acting debut, in which she shared the screen with other stars such as Zaldana, Taryn Manning, Anson Mount, Dan Aykroyd, and Kim Cattrall.

<h2>‘Crossroads’ revisited: More than a Spears’ stars vehicle</h2>



‘Crossroads’ was, from its conception, Spear’s star vehicle and critics at the time of its release didn’t love it. The majority of the reviews slammed the script, and were divisive regarding Spears’ performance. While some critics believed she came off as “likable,” others thought her acting was insincere.



However, 20 years later, many critics have found that the film is better than how it was received, especially when it’s reinterpreted in the wake of Spear’s own career and life. For example, Rob Sheffield from Rolling Stone wrote that it has been “hidden for too long. Like Britney herself, it deserves a chance to break free.”

Of course, this is not rare as Spears and her team developed the concept for it, which was later written by a pre-Grey’s Anatomy Shonda Rhimes. While the movie is, on its exterior, a tale of friendship and love, it also deals with darker themes (although, with an admittedly light approach) such as bodily autonomy, teen pregnancy, abuse and more.

According to Flix Patrol, the specialized platform, the title has become quite popular among American users, securing a spot in the Top 10 and surpassing “Ready Player One” with Tye Sheridan and Olivia Cooke. 



Britt Robertson is the one who brought the main character to life in this wacky story, which was scripted by Todd M. Friedman and Kevin Haskin. Despite being released in 2023, the Andy Palmer-directed <a href="https://spoiler.bolavip.com/en/category/films">film</a> is trending again.

According to Flix Patrol, the production has managed to surpass Ready Player One, claiming the title of the ninth most-watched film in the United States. Everything indicates that it will continue to climb, as it has accumulated hundreds of views.



The story takes Britt Robertson back to her student years as she portrays Molly Singer, a young woman with a mission she cannot afford to spoil. Jaime Pressly, Wendie Malick and Ty Simpkins accompany her in significant roles.

The plot follows a young lawyer who must go undercover, to save her job, by enrolling as a freshman at her alma mater to resurrect the well-being of her boss’s terribly awkward teenage son.



The hilarious movie offers a mix of various elements, but especially absurd comedy and ambivalence. With an R rating, the story portrays themes such as responsibility, adulthood, and how the young lawyer must revisit her adolescence for a mission.

There’s a new number 1 movie on <a href="https://spoiler.bolavip.com/en/netflix">Netflix</a> worldwide, according to FlixPatrol: Players, the <a href="https://spoiler.bolavip.com/en/topic/romance">romantic</a> <a href="https://spoiler.bolavip.com/en/topic/comedy">comedy</a> starring Gina Rodriguez, Tom Ellis and Damon Wayans Jr. The film achieved the top spot with only a day on the platform, after arriving on Valentine’s Day (Feb. 14th).



The movie is directed by Trish Sie, who recently helmed Prime Video’s “Sitting in Bar With Cake,” as well as other well-known titles such as “Step Up All In” and “Pitch Perfect 3.” Meanwhile, the script was written by Whit Anderson, who has also written for “Daredevil” and “Ozark.”

<h2>‘Players,’ the new rom-com from Netflix that triumphs on the platform</h2>



The movie follows Mack (Rodriguez), a sportswriter who, alongside his best friend Adam (Wayans Jr.) and her crew, has developed a game of “plays” that help them get countless one-night stands over the years. However, when she starts having feelings for seemingly perfect war correspondent Nick (Tom Ellis), she rethinks the game entirely.



While rom-coms usually focus on the main character and their love interest(s), “Players” focus on a whole group of friends with different personalities. Adam is thoughtful and supportive, Sam (Augustus Prew) is aloof but caring, Ryan (Joel Courtney) is Sam’s little brother, and Ashley (Liza Koshy) is the quirky and confident of the group.

In an interview with UPROXX, Rodriguez said that she thought it was “interesting” the reverse gender roles in the film, especially with her character: “It’s just a transition of journey where she’s like, ‘This was working for me and now, it’s not. Now I need help to try to change the way we’ve been going at this.’ She’s got her boys in her corner — they love her, believe in her, lean on her and she does them. I just felt like it was the formula I love but with a twist.”



<h2>What are the critics saying about ‘Players’?</h2>



Don’t let the 43% score on Rotten Tomatoes fool you, most critics have positive things to say about the film. While it’s true that the general consensus is that the film plays it safe, they also agree that this film is an upgrade for the rom-com genre (particularly on streaming, especially on Netflix).

“But if it’s both familiar and a little forgettable, ‘Players’ is fun to watch,” wrote Alissa Wilkinson for The New York Times, also praising the “sincerity” of its characters and connections. Meanwhile, The Guardian give it three stars out of five, saying that “it may trip on its gimmicks at times, but there’s enough lived experience beneath the rapid-fire quips to work.”
