According to Variety, as reported exclusively, Ayesha Harris is set to become a series regular on “The Pitt,” while Supriya Ganesh will exit the show following its second season, marking a significant cast transition for the acclaimed medical drama.

Casting Changes Reflect Story Evolution in ‘The Pitt’

Harris, who portrays senior night shift resident Dr. Parker Ellis, will take on an expanded role as the series heads into its already-ordered third part. Ganesh’s departure, meanwhile, brings an end to Dr. Samira Mohan’s arc after two seasons.

The sources of Variety indicate the decision is rooted in the show’s storytelling rather than external factors. As a teaching hospital setting naturally cycles through residents, the production has built in a framework that accommodates such exits without disrupting its internal logic.

Within the narrative, Samira has spent much of the second installment weighing her future beyond residency, a thread that aligns with her eventual departure. Introduced as a meticulous and deeply empathetic physician, the character became a steady presence in the emergency department, often balancing clinical precision with emotional investment in her patients.

Created by R. Scott Gemmill and executive produced by John Wells and Noah Wyle, the series has drawn widespread acclaim for its real-time format and commitment to medical realism. Each episode tracks roughly one hour of a continuous shift, immersing viewers in the operational and emotional strain of an under-resourced emergency room.

Since its debut in January last year, the show has built a strong critical reputation, earning multiple major awards and recognition from both industry groups and medical professionals. With a third season already in motion, the latest casting changes underscore the series’ commitment to evolving its ensemble in step with the realities of its setting.
