The project marks a significant milestone for Kelly, who is set to make his feature film debut after attracting attention for his portrayal of John F. Kennedy Jr. in FX’s “American Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette.“
Paul Anthony Kelly Lands a Major Role in the Thriller Sequel
Kelly has been cast as Douglas Garrick, a wealthy businessman who becomes the latest employer of Millie, the former housemaid played by Sweeney. His character is married to Wendy Garrick, who will be portrayed by Dunst. The sequel adapts Freida McFadden’s second novel in the bestselling “Housemaid” series and continues Millie’s story after the events of the first film.
Behind the camera, Paul Feig is returning to direct after steering the original movie to commercial success. Rebecca Sonnenshine, who adapted the first installment, is once again handling screenplay duties.
The casting represents another major step in Kelly’s rapid rise. Before landing the role of John F. Kennedy Jr., the Canadian actor spent years working primarily as a model, appearing in campaigns for major fashion brands while pursuing acting opportunities. His breakout television role transformed him into one of the more closely watched newcomers of the year and helped put him on Hollywood’s radar.
“The Housemaid’s Secret” arrives with high expectations following the success of its predecessor. Released during the 2025 holiday season, “The Housemaid” starred Sweeney as Millie Calloway, a young woman with a criminal past who takes a job with a wealthy family only to uncover disturbing secrets lurking behind their seemingly perfect life. The psychological thriller became a box office hit, earning approximately $400 million worldwide and spawning plans for a larger franchise based on McFadden’s novels.
