The actor revealed the role during a new interview with Le Journal du Dimanche, where he also discussed the unusual secrecy surrounding his upcoming appearance in “Avengers: Doomsday.”

Stan’s casting gives “The Batman: Part II” a particularly notable connection to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The actor has spent more than a decade playing Bucky Barnes, the Winter Soldier, across the MCU, including “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” “Captain America: Civil War,” “Avengers: Infinity War,” “Avengers: Endgame,” “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” and “Thunderbolts.” He will also appear in “Avengers: Doomsday,” which is set to bring together characters from several Marvel universes.

When asked about the upcoming Marvel film, Stan offered an unusually candid glimpse into how tightly its production has been kept under wraps. “Honestly, I have absolutely no idea. Because we didn’t have a script. We were just shooting scattered scenes.” He also described the process as “continuous, constantly evolving,” reflecting the secrecy that has surrounded the project during production.

That same secrecy has now made his comments about “The Batman: Part II” quite significant. Stan directly identified his character while discussing the Matt Reeves sequel, saying, “I also can’t say anything about The Batman: Part II, by Matt Reeves, where I play Harvey Dent.” The confirmation establishes that Stan is indeed stepping into the role of Gotham’s district attorney, rather than leaving his casting to inference from previous reports.

In the first film, Robert Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne became entangled in a city defined by corruption, criminal networks and compromised public officials as he investigated the Riddler’s murders. By the conclusion, Gotham had been devastated by flooding, leaving Batman committed to helping the city rebuild and embracing a more hopeful role.

“The Batman: Part II” will continue from that aftermath, with Batman investigating another case involving corruption and division in Gotham. Stan’s Harvey Dent will be joined by Scarlett Johansson as Gilda Dent and Charles Dance as Charles Dent, Harvey’s father. The sequel is also set to bring back Jeffrey Wright as Jim Gordon, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth and Colin Farrell as the Penguin.

The role could ultimately take Stan into one of the most recognizable transformations in Batman mythology, since the A-lister has previously described the character as having “many roles” because of his connection to the disfigured alter ego Two-Face. For now, however, the actor’s own words establish the part without revealing how far Reeves’ story will take him.
