The actress, who introduced a new version of Jean Grey in this summer’s blockbuster, confirmed to Variety that her story is only getting started as Marvel prepares its long-awaited “X-Men” reboot. “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” premiered a week ago and has already become the highest-grossing film of 2026, setting the stage for Jean Grey’s return.
Sadie Sink Says Early Conversations Are Already Shaping Jean Grey’s Future
Asked about working with Schreier on the next phase of Jean Grey’s journey, Sink made it clear that those discussions are already happening. “Yes, she will,” she said when asked whether Jean would return in “X-Men.” Reflecting on the process so far, she added, “It’s been really exciting all the conversations we’ve had, and I feel really lucky that I have this introduction through ‘Spider-Man’ and [her] backstory.”

Sink also shared what has stood out to her as she has explored the mutant team in greater depth. “The more I’ve gotten into it and researched, what makes them special is that they are all incredibly flawed and maybe have done bad things,” she said.
Rather than presenting straightforward heroes, Sink believes those personal struggles are central to the team’s appeal. “That makes them more compelling, complex characters and a more complex hero if they don’t start out that way,” she said. She also pointed to the burden of their abilities, explaining, “They have to find their relationship to their powers. Because it’s not like they’ve asked for this or that these strengths make their lives easier; they make them a lot harder, actually.”
Looking ahead, Sink suggested Jean Grey’s emotional journey will remain a major focus of her next appearance. “Knowing Jean’s struggle will be important in the future of her character and where she goes, just makes her really well-rounded, which I’m excited for.”
Marvel’s untitled “X-Men” film is set to be directed by Schreier from a screenplay by Lee Sung Jin and Joanna Calo, with Sink reprising Jean Grey following her debut in “Spider-Man: Brand New Day.” The cast also includes Samara Weaving as Emma Frost and Kit Connor as Scott Summers/Cyclops.
