According to Variety, citing a report from The Insneider, the comedian has quietly completed production on a new “Ali G” movie, reviving the character more than 20 years after his first big-screen outing. The project was reportedly filmed entirely under wraps, with no official announcement during production.

Sacha Baron Cohen’s Famous Character Is Returning to the Big Screen

Ali G first became a breakout figure in the late 1990s as the self-proclaimed “voice of da youth” on the U.K.’s “The 11 O’Clock Show” before taking center stage in “Da Ali G Show” and the 2002 comedy “Ali G Indahouse.” The fictional interviewer, whose exaggerated street persona often caught unsuspecting public figures off guard, helped establish Baron Cohen’s reputation for blending improvisation with hidden-camera satire.

The new picture was reportedly completed in secret, following a strategy similar to the one Baron Cohen used for “Borat” in 2006 and “Borat Subsequent Moviefilm” in 2020. Those productions remained largely hidden until close to their releases, allowing the comedian to preserve the surprise element that has become central to many of his projects.

Although Baron Cohen said in a 2007 interview that both Ali G and Borat had been retired, the character has made occasional appearances over the years. Ali G resurfaced at the 2012 British Comedy Awards to accept Baron Cohen’s Outstanding Achievement Award in character and later returned for the television special “Ali G Rezurection,” which mixed classic sketches with newly filmed material.

No plot details, release date, or distribution plans for the new movie have been announced, and a spokesperson for Baron Cohen had not responded to requests for comment at the time of the report. Still, news that the project has already wrapped suggests audiences may not have to wait long before learning more about the comedian’s latest revival of one of his signature creations.
