The outlet reported that a representative for the former film producer said he developed severe breathing problems and is expected to remain under medical care for several weeks as he recovers.
Harvey Weinstein Remains Hospitalized as Legal Battles Continue
Weinstein, 74, is reportedly receiving treatment at Bellevue Hospital Prison Ward in Manhattan after being transferred from Rikers Island, where he has been held while awaiting sentencing scheduled for September. TMZ, which first reported the hospitalization, said his condition was linked to heart failure caused by pneumonia. His representative said he is resting and recovering after his health worsened over the past week.
The latest health update comes shortly after Manhattan prosecutors announced they would not pursue a fourth trial over abuse allegations involving Jessica Mann. That case had already resulted in an overturned conviction followed by multiple juries that failed to reach a unanimous verdict. Despite that decision, Weinstein remains convicted on separate offense charges in both New York and California.
Weinstein’s legal troubles began in 2017 after numerous women publicly accused him of sexual harassment and assault, allegations he denied involving nonconsensual activity. The accusations sparked the global “MeToo” movement and led to criminal prosecutions in multiple jurisdictions.
Although one of his New York convictions was overturned on appeal in 2024, he was convicted again in a 2025 retrial on one count of criminal sexual act and continues to face sentencing while serving time connected to his California conviction.
