In a 2023 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Ford reflected on the roles he believes deserved more recognition, highlighting two projects that remain especially meaningful to him years after their release.

When asked whether there was a role he felt had been underappreciated, Ford’s answer did not include any of his most famous franchises. Instead, he immediately pointed to a baseball dramaand a Cold War thriller. “I’m proud of 42. I’m proud of K-19: The Widowmaker, where I played a Russian submarine captain,” he said, before adding that he considers both to be “good movies.”

Ford also made it clear that his perspective is not shaped by awards or box office results. “Each film has its own destiny,” he remarked, explaining that he does not spend time looking back and reassessing how individual projects were received. For the veteran actor, the quality of the work itself is what continues to matter most.
Released in 2013, “42” chronicles the story of Jackie Robinson, the player who broke Major League Baseball’s color barrier. Chadwick Boseman stars as Robinson, while Ford delivers an acclaimed performance as Brooklyn Dodgers executive Branch Rickey, the man who signed Robinson despite widespread opposition. The biographical drama earned generally positive reviews and grossed nearly $100 million worldwide, with Ford receiving praise for his transformation into the baseball executive.
“K-19: The Widowmaker,” released in 2002, cast Ford opposite Liam Neeson in a tense historical drama directed by Kathryn Bigelow. Set aboard the Soviet Union’s first nuclear ballistic missile submarine, the film follows Captain Alexei Vostrikov as his crew races to prevent a catastrophic reactor meltdown during the height of the Cold War. Although critics praised the performances and the picture’s atmosphere, it struggled at the box office, making Ford’s continued admiration for the project especially notable more than two decades later.
