Charlize Theron Turns 51: The Time She Responded to Claims She Had a Facelift

Charlize Theron is celebrating her 51st birthday after another busy year in Hollywood, highlighted by her role as Calypso in Christopher Nolan's "The Odyssey," one of 2026's biggest releases.

Beyond her latest projects, the Academy Award winner has also remained a frequent topic of conversation for her refreshingly honest outlook on aging. In a 2023 interview with Allure, she confronted persistent rumors that she had undergone a facelift, offering a candid explanation that quickly made headlines.

Charlize Theron Didn’t Hold Back When Asked About Facelift Rumors

During her conversation with the beauty magazine, Theron made it clear that she had no interest in pretending time had stood still. “My face is changing, and I love that my face is changing and aging,” she said, before revealing that online speculation often assumed cosmetic surgery was responsible for her appearance.

She dismissed those rumors with characteristic bluntness. “People think I had a facelift. They’re like, ‘What did she do to her face?’ I’m like, ‘B****, I’m just aging! It doesn’t mean I got bad plastic surgery. This is just what happens.'”

The conversation also turned to the different expectations placed on men and women as they age in the entertainment industry. Theron acknowledged that she has long been frustrated by the way aging is perceived, saying, “I’ve always had issues with the fact that men kind of age like fine wines and women like cut flowers.”

Even so, the “Mad Max: Fury Road” star stressed that she does not believe there is a single right way to approach aging. “I despise that concept and I want to fight against it, but I also think women want to age in a way that feels right to them.” She added that people should be “a little bit more empathetic to how we all go through our journey,” a message that continues to resonate as she marks another milestone birthday.
