According to IMDb trivia, Cavill sent Corenswet a personal letter after he was cast, choosing encouragement over instruction as a new era for the Man of Steel got underway. The 2025 film, written and directed by James Gunn, introduced Corenswet as the new Superman and launched the rebooted DC Universe.

Henry Cavill Welcomed David Corenswet to the Role in His Own Way

Before production began, Corenswet exchanged letters with both Cavill and fellow Superman actor Tyler Hoechlin. Rather than offering acting tips or trying to shape his interpretation of the character, both performers deliberately took a different approach. They made it clear they were not gonna try to give him advice about playing Superman.

Cavill instead focused on a simple message of support. Corenswet later shared that the former Superman encouraged him to “have fun with it,” allowing the new actor to discover the role on his own terms. He chose not to reveal the rest of the letter, explaining that the exchange was personal and meaningful between the two of them.

Speaking about the correspondence, Corenswet described the decision to avoid giving instructions as “a very Superman thing” to do. The timing was especially significant as the star prepared to headline James Gunn’s “Superman,” the first theatrical release in the new DC Universe. The picture follows Clark Kent as he balances his work as a Daily Planet reporter with the challenges of being Earth’s greatest protector, while facing a conflict engineered by Lex Luthor and trying to regain the public’s trust.

Corenswet’s time as Superman is only just beginning. He is set to reprise the role in “Man of Tomorrow,” Gunn’s upcoming follow-up, which will see the superhero and Lex Luthor reluctantly join forces against the powerful Brainiac. The film is currently scheduled to arrive in theaters in July 2027.
